Blind Classroom is an AI-powered, voice-based e-learning initiative implemented under Access Ability Africa Limited, in partnership with Save the Children International and the Government of Malawi through the Ministry of Education. The initiative is designed to support learners with visual impairments by providing accessible, audio-based learning that enables independent study and meaningful participation in education.
The initiative started in Malawi as a pilot and implementation base, working closely with schools, teachers, and education authorities to align with the national curriculum and strengthen inclusive education. While Malawi is the starting point, Blind Classroom is designed for scale across Africa, with a long-term goal of supporting inclusive education systems on the continent through locally relevant, accessible technology.
Blind Classroom serves as a virtual learning assistant for learners and a support tool for teachers, promoting equity, dignity, and inclusion in education.
Since the start of our initiative, we have collaborated with key educational institutions to support visually impaired learners. Our system is currently implemented at Chilanga School for the Blind in Kasungu with the help of Save the Children Malawi and St Joseph Resource Centre in Dedza with the help of MUUNI FUND.
